We love a trend but we love style more, because it’s everlasting; so we like to apply our style to trends and make them accessible and wearable for everyone. A great example of this is taking a wardrobe staple like a skirt, refine it down to a trend – the pleated skirt, then create looks for various situations. So we’ve taken three pleated skirts and styled them in very different ways to show how versatile these pieces are and how easy it is to adapt a key item like this.
The great thing about a skirt is it’s a super feminine and you can either be very casual with it or really fancy, and that’s the approach we’ve taken with three gorgeous examples from The Women’s Society. All the skirts are a midi length which people can get wrong or can be too afraid to try. As long as this length is pared with the right pieces it’s actually a very flattering silhouette but balance is key.
The first of our looks is a feminine outfit perfect for a wedding, a Christmas party or any night out. This luxurious red pleated skirt by Ted Baker for £149 is very adaptable, we’ve pared it with a pink Ted Baker cami for £89 which mirrors the pink detail in the skirt. The navy blue band cinches in the waist perfectly and so we’ve balanced this pop of dark colour with these classic navy suede heels by Elia B for £110 (available in our boutique) then added the Ted Baker leather purse in rose gold for £85. Because there is so much texture and vibrant colour in the skirt we’ve chosen to keep the accessories clean and simple so the only other piece we added was the Nour necklace (available in store) – the rose gold colour compliments the purse and adds a little sparkle. As there’s a bit of a chill in the air you’ll be needing a coat with this outfit and this grey wrap coat also by Ted Baker for £329 (available in our boutique) is stunning AND warm, we love it!
All we did to take this skirt from night on the town to lunch with the girls was add a white long sleeve jersey top by Ichi for £16.99, some navy velvet boots by Hudson for £139 and this super cute metallic leather bag by Ted Baker for £129. By keeping the colours and silhouette the same this outfit has transitioned perfectly. Definitely one of our favs!
Next we have the metallic pleated skirt by Yaya for £70 and we’ve gone a bit rock chick with this one, adding a faded vintage style t-shirt by Colourful Rebel for £39 with rolled up sleeves which gives this outfit the casual “boyfriend look” making it perfect for a relaxed day or night. The studded satchel by Replay for £85 adds to the rock ‘n’ roll vibe whilst this gorgeous statement ring for £69 by Decadorn gives the whole look a little sparkle (both available in our boutique). For the ultimate no nonsense styling we’ve pared this skirt with some studded trainers by Ash for £149 which although they’re flat – the studded star details carry our quirky look all the way down to your toes. This combination of metallic, leather, sparkles and studs styled in a casual way has created a fabulously balanced outfit full of effortless femininity and on trend style and if you get cold just throw on our black suede jacket by Second Female for £254. Sorted.
To vamp this skirt up a bit we’ve added more sparkle but kept everything tonal. We swapped the t-shirt for the Soaked in Luxury twinkle knit for £59.99 and tucked it in to maintain the cinched in waist. Because the satchel is so versatile we’ve kept that but added these gorgeous black glitter boots by Ash for £159 and kept the statement ring as well. By changing two elements within this outfit we’ve created something completely different but still very rock chick; the overall effortlessness of the look is still there we just added extra va va voom…
Next up some 70s inspired stripes and sparkles. We LOVE this outfit, it’s so simple and so gorgeous we’d like to strut around in it all day everyday! The multicoloured lurex pleated skirt for £145 and matching jumper for £125 are both by Intropia, we then went all out with the accessories and added even more glitter with this glitter clutch for £99 and glitter heels for £139 both by Bourne. Ordinarily this might seem a bit much visually, but we’ve matched the mauve tones in the bag and shoes with the mauve stripes in the skirt and jumper, so it works really well. Because there is so much detail and colour in this outfit we’ve kept the jewellery simple opting for one statement piece – this beautiful pendant for £38 by Decadorn. This look is glamorous and flattering whilst keeping everything covered up, which means it suits lots of ages too. We really love this, it’s definitely one of our favourite styling creations.
We wanted to maintain a glamorous vibe with the alternative version of this look but make it more appropriate for the day, so we’ve added a burgundy knit by Soaked in Luxury for £49.99 to tone it down slightly. We then added matching suede shoes for £110 by Elia B (available in our boutique) and accessorised with grey leather gloves for £75, grey leather handbag for £199 and grey wool wrap coat as before all by Ted Baker. The result is a look full of personality and panache, suitable for any occasion where you need to look fierce and sophisticated and feel confident. This skirt is definitely one to add to your wardrobe.
