Its cashmere season!! Cashmere, along with silk, is one of my favourite fabrics to wear. It feels amazing next to the skin – so soft and warm, but unlike synthetic fibres, its breathable. It has to be ethical of course, and luckily most cashmere brands these days are.
I’m fortunate that I don’t have far to travel as my local clothing boutique, The Womens’ Society Boutique in Hertford stocks a wide range of the most gorgeous, softest jumpers from ethical labels such as Cocoa Cashmere and Jumper1234.
The timeless designs are wonderful too – vivid rainbows and soft pastels, super stylish and so deliciously cosy. If you’re not local, all the items are available on the website.
These are my top 3 – I just have to decide which one to keep…
JUMPER 1234 USES RAW CASHMERE, WHICH IS CAREFULLY REFINED TO FILTER ANYTHING OTHER THAN THE PUREST FIBRES. OUR CASHMERE COMES FROM A VAST COUNTRYSIDE WHICH, WITH OUR HELP WHEN WE BUY THEIR CASHMERE, SUPPORTS THE LIVES OF THE NOMADIC HERDSMEN OF MONGOLIA AND THEIR FAMILIES.
EACH PIECE IN A COCOA CASHMERE COLLECTION BEGINS LIFE AS THE PUREST WHITE AND SOFTEST HAIR, COMBED FROM OUR OWN, FREE-RANGING GOATS IN INNER MONGOLIA, ON OUR OWN FARMS, AND SPUN BY PEOPLE WE TRUST – OUR FAMILY. THERE’S NO OTHER WAY TO CREATE COCOA CASHMERE WITH SUCH A SENSUOUS FEEL, WITH A QUALITY THAT LASTS AND RESISTS PILLING. OR TO GIVE OUR SIGNATURE POPS OF COCOA COLOUR THE INTENSITY THAT WE LOVE.
Other cashmere knits I spotted in store:
Colour block jumper by Cocoa Cashmere £199
Star Jumper (with pink stars on reverse) by Cocoa Cashmere £199 (available in the Boutique)
This is just a small selection of the cashmere in stock at The Womens’ Society – check out their Instagram and stories for more!
This is what Victoria, curator of the collections in the Boutique had to say about the brands:
“Customers are looking for something different when shopping at an Independent store. I therefore carefully select brands for the boutique that offer this. Taking into consideration the style and the longevity thegarments offer to the customer. Because we’ve worked with clients for years we’re able to say: ‘Oh, this would work with the piece that’s already in your wardrobe’! So I buy items specifically with customers in mind a lot of the time.
I partially love the cashmere brands we work with. Jumper 1234 and Cocoa Cashmere design contemporary playful pieces, which are all conceived in Britain. But better still they are all about sustainability and producing items which are ethically friendly using natural products. Not only will you feel and look amazing in them, buying from them will also give you the peace of mind that you are buying a honest garment”.
Cashmere Care Advice from The Womens Society:
Handwash cashmere with a tiny bit of cashmere detergent and rinse in luke warm water, then hang to dry. Jumper 1234 sweaters can actually be machine washed with a handwash detergent on a delicate cycle at 30 degrees.
